FAQ

What is Electroplating?

Electroplating is a plating process that uses electrical current to reduce cations of a desired material from a solution and coat a conductive object with a thin layer of the material, such as gold.
Electroplating is primarily used for depositing a layer of material to bestow a desired property (e.g. abrasion and wear resistance, corrosion protection and aesthetic qualities) to a surface that otherwise lacks that property.

Do you use genuine gold?

Yes we use genuine 24ct gold.

How long will my gold plating last?

Depending on certain factors and how much wear and tear the item will receive, care must be taken with any plated item and never polished with any harsh cleaners as this will damage and in some cases remove the plated surface. Our plating should last many years.

Do you plate items with a thick layer of gold?

Yes we always build a durable layer of gold for a lasting effect.

Will it peel off after a short time?

No, our gold will last for a long time if looked after in the correct way and will never peel. Peeling is a sign of poor preparation and cleaning prior to gold plating.

Can you remove pits and small scratches from my item?

If there is enough metal below the pits/scratches and the blemishes are not too severe we can usually polish these marks out, but we will never risk distorting any item.

Do you plate plastic with chrome finish?

Yes, we plate on most common plastics, although this form of plating requires special preparation and will reflect this in the price.
